General information
At present Ukrainian legislation has defined visa and visa-free entry of Ukraine for foreign nationals.
Foreign citizens enter (leave) Ukraine through checkpoints at state borders with national passports and visas if any, unless other procedure of entry is determined by the legislation of Ukraine.
Visa-free entry of Ukraine is for citizens of Austria, Azerbaijan, Andorra, Belgium, Belarus, Bulgaria, Vatican, United Kingdom, Armenia, Georgia, Greece, Denmark, Estonia, Israel, Ireland, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Cyprus, Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Mongolia, Netherlands, Germany (Federal Republic), Norway, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, San Marino, Slovenia, U S A, Tajikistan , Hungary, Uzbekistan, Finland, France, Czech Republic, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan.
No invitation is needed for visa processing for citizens of countries-members of European Union, Canada, USA, Turkey, Switzerland and Japan (Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine resolution of May 5 2000 №750, of September 1 2000 №1376, of February 7, 2001 №113, of February 28 2001 №192).
Starting from July 1 2005 no visa is required for USA citizens who enter Ukraine within six months after their previous trip to Ukraine or transit through its territory for a period of 90 days with a current US passport.
For the citizens of the United States and Canada who are entering Ukraine for employment, residence, study and work in the US diplomatic mission in Ukraine or for any other purpose if they stay in Ukraine more than 90 days visas are required.
So, to speak in a simple language visa is not required for citizens of the United States and Canada who enter the territory of Ukraine for period of less than 90 days.
US citizens please make sure your medical insurance has coverage in Ukraine.
The cash foreign currency imported by individuals regardless of the age. It is allowed to verbally declare the amount in any currency equivalent of $1000 US, and checks issued by foreign banks for the same amount. Required is declaration of amounts equivalent of $10000 US or checks up to $50000 US regardless of the currency. Authorizing documents are not required.
Cash foreign currency which exceeds the amount $10000 US is taken by customs authorities for storage and returned to the owner for importing it to Ukraine if there is a permission of National Bank. The same rule applies for checks over $50000 US.
It is allowed to import for personal need without a certificate 1l of vodka, 2l of wine and 10l of beer. As a souvenir you can bring 2l of wine a person through customs. Food- not more than for 50 euros.
